Yosef E. Maruvka

Yosef E. Maruvka

Yosef completed his undergraduate studies in Physics and Math (dual major) at the Bar-Ilan university. He then did a Masters and PhD in physics, where he developed applications of statistical mechanics in the field of population genetics and evolutionary biology. He them continued to do post-doctoral fellowship at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard working with Profs. Franziska Michor and Prof. Gad Getz. During this time, he developed methods detecting mutations in reputative regions of the genome and applied his method in many projects. In 2020 he opened his Cancer Genomics Evolution lab at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering at the Technion. In his lab Yosef lead a team of researchers that focus on both on understanding early tumorigenic steps, as well as developing methods for analyzing tumors genomic data.

Keren Yizhak

Keren completed her undergraduate studies in the Computational Biology and Computer Science program at the Hebrew university. She then moved to Tel-Aviv University to do her Masters and PhD in Computer Science, where she focused on developing computational methods for studying human metabolism, specifically in aging and cancer. In 2015 she started her post-doc at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard working with Prof. Gad Getz. During this time she developed methods for studying tumor immunity at the single-cell level, as well as methods for studying somatic clonality in normal tissues. In 2019 she opened her Computational Cancer Genomics lab at the Faculty of Medicine, where she continues the application and development of computational tools for studying cancer genomics and immunity.

Dvir Aran

I am an Assistant Professor at the Biology department at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. I completed my postdoctoral research in Atul Butte’s lab at the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute (BCHSI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). In my research career, I published >25 manuscripts, 12 of them first-author peer-reviewed research manuscripts, many of them covered in the media and are highly cited. My early research focus was on the interplays between DNA methylation and gene expression profiles in health and disease. I then shifted to developing computational and experimental methods for better characterization of the tumor microenvironment and applying those methods to pan-cancer studies. The methods I developed are used by thousands of researchers in academia and industry around the world. My current focus is split between computational immunology analyses using single-cell RNA-sequencing data; and applying machine-learning techniques on electronic health records (EHR) to improve patients’ flow and disease outcomes.

Shai Shen-Orr

Shai is an Associate Prof. at the Faculty of Medicine at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where he heads the Systems Immunology & Precision Medicine laboratory. He is an expert in Systems Immunology and his lab is focused on the development of novel analytics for studying the immune system—tools which he applies to study the drivers of immune variation and to further Immune-based Precision Medicine. His research laid the foundation of CytoReason, a company building computational disease models, which it applies to further drug development in collaboration with leading pharma companies.
